Is "Il était en colère" more or less equal to:
"He was angry"

Or does "Il était en colère" relfect a bit more intense anger?

en colère is somewhat more intense than angry, in my view.
"got", though implies a progression rather than a state. To translate the English properly, it should be "il se mit en colère". I don't know about this notion of progression in the Japanese original, though...Someone should confirm that.

I also believe "il était en colère" is more intense. So how would you render "he was angry" in French?
