I would unlink this one from the original English. AFAIK, the 「がる」suffix should introduce an aspect such as "he seems to be thinking of doing that", even "he has the nerve to do that", and not simply "he wants to do it".

I think just "wants" is not enough in this case.

It's the same as ~したい, but used in the third person. There is no issue here. Also notice that Blanka_Meduzo translated from the Esperanto, which means exactly the same as the English.

Yes, you all are completely right. I just misunderstood 「したがる」with「しやがる」, which is what any father would think when somebody is trying to steal his daughter lol. Thanks for your help!
