*in the cemetary
?

I'm not sure if cemetary is the right word...it doesn't resemble a 'normal' cemetary at all...more like one massive grave...

(or one massive dump area for bodies)

I actually referred to المقبرة in the original sentence. قبر is grave, if I'm not mistaken. Isn't maqbara the common word for "cemetary" in Arabic?

or graveyard.

I'll have to disagree on that one...it can also refer specifically to a grave
زرنا المقابر
literally 'we visited the graves'
=we visited the graveyard

you can always add an alternative sentence with 'graveyard'.

No, it isn't necessary, I agree with you. maqbara is also a grave, not necessarily "a cemetary".
