I think its an issue with 責める which can mean both "to criticize" and "to accuse" although in English they are a bit different.
I'd be happy with changing it to 「私が間違っていたことを責めた」 as suggested.
To be honest, I still think the Japanese matches the English.
However, 私の間違い is a bit ambiguous as @JimBreen said. Probably that is why @Yorwba has pointed that out.
I'll add the sentence with 私が間違っていたことを責めた, then it would be clear about the meaning.
