"Vorausgesetzt, der Leserbrief ist kein Scherz, bewundere ich den Schreiber, weil er sagt, was er sich denkt."

Lieber Eldad, ich bin KEIN Experte für das Komma in der deutschen Sprache, aber sicher ist: wir haben hier drei Teilsätze.
Ich meine es ist richtig sie durch ein Komma zu trennen.

Nebensatz: "Selbst wenn jeder lachen wird" [, ist das kein Scherz]
Nebensatz: "was er sagt" = [Das]
Hauptsatz: [Das] "ist kein Scherz"

In your example:
... weil er sagt, was er sich denkt.
a comma seems indeed in order
(excuse me for not writing in German).

But "ist kein Scherz" doesn't seem to me a sentence because it doesn't have a subject; the subject is in the previous part ("was er sagt"), and I feel that it should be attached to the predicate without comma, rather than be separated from it by a comma.

However, German is not my mother tongue, I've been studying it over the past few years. So I'm not sure if my grammatical sense does not mislead me this time.
