If I may comment on it, both versions seem to be correct (both "mit ihnen" and "in ihnen"). See here:

However, according to the Latin saying, "...nos et mutamur in illis", I believe that "in ihnen" would be a more accurate rendition. What say you?

If I may put in my two pennies worth, ‘in ihnen’ is unusual at first, but it makes sense, and there is a nuance to it in contrast to ‘mit ihnen’ that I think is worth keeping here. I would only suggest inserting a comma before ‘und’ (independent main clauses with different subjects).
