בהתחלה, כשקראתי את המשפט, לא הבנתי מה זה יום האלף (כלומר, היה לי נדמה שחסרה שם ה"א). אחרי שנייה או שתיים קלטתי שהתכוונת ליום אל"ף. הגרשיים בשם האות אחראים לבידול בין מילה רגילה לבין שם אות. לא ברור לי מדוע דווקא גרשיים, אבל אני נוהג על פי המוסכמה הזאת שהתקבלה.
