en realidad, es más común decir
"medio muerto"
que "medio vivo" o "medio con vida"

Pero, puedo estar equivocado. Lo que pasa es que "medio vivo" me suena a otra cosa:
"ser vivo" en Chile, significa "ser pillo"

Does it sound colloquial in Spanish?

I've just rendered it in Hebrew (in Hebrew we also say "half dead" rather than "half alive"), and I was quite tempted to add a "colloquial" tag (but I didn't add it).
