La oficiala vorto por "font" laŭ la ReVo, PIV2002 kaj Komputeko estas "tiparo".
Mi fakte ĵus pensis, ke temis pri alia vorto por skribsistemo aŭ alfabeto.

La signo ~ tie signifas, ke ambaŭ estas kvazaŭ sinonimoj.
