If you wish it to be more accurate, the Muslim profession of faith should better be spelled: "La Ilaha illa Allah. Muhammad rasul Allah".

There are two phrases: one like "No God but Allah" and the other like "Nothing to be worshiped but Allah." I seemed to have included words from both. That I can fix; and the spelling I can argue; but I'm unsure of which of the two phrases is best cited as part of the profession of faith.

Did you cite the second, because mine mistakenly begins with "la'"?

The one you cited above is the correct one, the one which is most often cited. I believe you didn't take parts from the other one, you simply transliterated the Arabic with mistakes (this can be understood, as you probably don't speak Arabic). I corrected the Arabic for a closer match with the way it is pronounced (and often cited in English).

What you wrote (which I corrected, for a closer match) is: "There's no God but Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah".

Of course, if it is pronounced differently in Java - I don't know. I simply treated it as if it's an Arabic saying.

By the way, I had to suggest corrections, as the way it is currently spelled in your English sentence, (a) it makes no sense in Arabic, and (b) it consists of mistakes in Arabic grammar.

Thanks for your comments. They have sent me scurrying about the Web. One thing I have found is that some Muslims are very--what? prickly, maybe--about Islamic scripture. (Idries Shah said it's possible to idolize a book.) I have seen innocent students pilloried for making mistakes while trying to learn to write suwar in Arabic. (One thinks of Christians in the Dark Ages put to death for innocently dropping a Host on the floor).

Consequently, although I am interested in the problems associated with the romanization of Arabic (and its historical vagaries), I have removed the shahada from my sentence.
