Could this be translated as either "Did you receive his invitation?" or "Did you accept his invitation?" If so, is there another choice of words that could remove the ambiguity?

It can mean both, but I would say the first meaning that would come to mind is "Did you receive his invitation?".
For "Did you accept his invitation?" I would suggest:
האם נענית להזמנה שלו?
However, the latter sounds more literary or official, i.e., of a higher register. This is why I believe most Israelis would simply say:
קיבלת את ההזמנה שלו?

Well, maybe:
נענית להזמנה שלו?
nevertheless.
