And it doesn't seem to be a good translation of the Japanese phrase either (I miss the "watashitachi wa").

Yup. I added a new translation from Japanese to English. "We saw them leave." I'm new to all this, but it's pretty exciting to be able to help.

So maybe a native speaker of English with the required rights could decide to delete this sentence or not, if it's really extremely unnatural. It's from the Tanaka corpus, which contains quite some mistakes and unnatural translations.
