Shouldn't the Japanese translation be more like:
彼女は心臓病de病気ni natta。
or end with de atta or something? I'm not a native speaker so please correct me. But mine explains that actual heart disease was the cause of the illness not just stating the she had a bad heart.

Don't try and be too literal in translations. In this case the Japanese came first, and the English is a reasonable translation of it. A more literal translation of the Japanese would be "She had a bad heart".
