@vvv123,
I thought that you add "bu" in Turkish as a substitute for "the" (as Turkish doesn't have the definite article). If you remove the word "bu" from this sentence, it may mean:

A ship is going to sink.

How do you express the idea of "the ship" (i.e., a ship known to the reader of the sentence)?

Thank you very much for the elaborate explanation.
Indeed, you are perfectly right.
For a moment, I forgot that "bir" would have turned it into an indefinite noun ("a ship").
Then "bu" is indeed not necessary here, as there isn't any demonstrative pronoun in the original sentence.

PS. As you explained, it does have an article - it only has an indefinite article, "bir".

Türkçe için "the" gereksiz gibi duruyor.
Bu çoğu zaman doğrudur.

Ama "the" belirli artikel.
Yani belirli bir tane varlık-şey için kullanılıyor.

Yani "the" yerine "bu" kullanmak en azından bazen yanlış olmaz.
Çünkü "bu" derken bilinen bir şeyden söz ediyoruz.

Yine de dediğiniz düzelmeyi yapayım.
