"Prendre le melon" est une expression figurée qui n'a aucun rapport avec l'achat d'un melon. La phrase néerlandaise "Hij heeft meloen gekocht" a un sens littéral et correspond à "Il a acheté du melon". Il a pris le melon, se dirait "hij heeft een dikke nek gekregen" en néerlandais de Belgique et "Hij loopt naast zijn schoenen" aux Pays-Bas.

I believe that, since the Turkish sentence was changed to match the non-literal French one (“Il a pris le melon” meaning “to have too high an opinion of oneself”), this sentence should also be changed to what Hirselina proposed (“Hij heeft een dikke nek gekregen” or “Hij loopt naast zijn schoenen”.) It already has an ‘idiom’ tag, but apparently this phrase is not idiomatic in Dutch.
