Vielleicht hat es mit meiner süddeutschen Zeit zu tun. Ich glaube aber nicht.

I suppose so. But it would not render the colloquial tone of the German. I would have to think about it to find something fitting, or wait till my native speaker comes home - if you see what I mean.

BTW, I've just looked for the above sentence on the Web, and found only two or three occurrences of it. Which means that either I don't remember the expression well, or that one usually says it otherwise. Could you enlighten me?

I have been away from my mother country for a decade now. But to me it sounds quite natural. You would use it in informal situations of course.

I asked my personal native speaker and she came up with two suggestions, which I both added. "He fluffed the resit, too" is probably closest.
