
Is it intentionally in the past tense
(as well as the other sentence)? Actually, in Hebrew, which I translated in the present tense, the present tense could just as well be construed as past tense, as the verb looks identical in both cases (without vocalization).

the present tense sounds horrible ^^'...and it's incredibly rare to find in use...same with the rest of أخوات كان...I guess one reason could be that ظل already gives the continuous sense, so the present tense becomes obsolete

Yes, I agree with you. That's why I asked whether it was intentional. Well, I guess it's better this way, then.
