עדיף לא להשתמש במילה "בגלל" בהקשר הזה.
על פי העברית התקנית, "בגלל" מצריך שם עצם: הוא לא הגיע בגלל מחלתו.

הייתי כותב:
הוא לא בא למסיבת ההולדת משום שהוא חולה.
כי הוא חולה.
מכיוון שהוא חולה, וכו'.

אפשר גם להשאיר "בגלל", ולהוסיף את התיוג colloquial Hebrew variant.
