I don't khow why you don't translate "he" and "his".

「パンダのような顔があるんだ。」is not a translation of the English sentence at all.

How about the following?

「可愛い子犬わね。どうしてパンダと名付けられたの？」「パンダのような顔をしているからだ」
"What a cute puppy. Why is he called Panda?" "Because his face looks like a panda."
