Perhaps this soup needs a little something extra.

or

I wonder if this soup needs a little spicing up.

Incidentally "something to pick it up" is perfectly valid 'cooking' English so should, IMO, be kept - either here or move this sentence into an alternative (non WWWJDIC) one.

OK, I'm spending too much time working on this sort of thing - I'm better working on the indexing stuff that only Jim does apart from me.

I suggest you go ahead and add them as translations of the Japanese line (make sure you select the Japanese first).

Just a quick reminder and general guideline.

1. The English line that ends up in WWWJDIC will (generally) be the one that was here first. If you are fairly sure that it is unnatural English then feel free to change it. The worst that can happen is that I get picky about it. ;-)

It takes a lot less time to change 20 sentences then change 1 back then it does to comment on 20 sentences and hope they get noticed and fixed. (Remember 'favourite-ing' sentences is a good way of making sure you don't get overlooked)

2. If the original sentence looks odd or excessively old-fashioned but you suspect may be valid English (British English still counts) then you can add it back in as a 'new' translation of the Japanese. That way nothing gets lost and you can debate the finer language points in the comments.
