y casí había pensado que los consonantes dobles no existían en español...

sí tenemos, las más comunes la rr (correcto, correr, cerrar, ...), ll (ella, allí, llover), cc (dirección, acción, cocción).

Pienso que todas las consonantes dobles se pronuncian de manera diferente de las consonantes solas, y que no hay consonantes geminadas como en japonés y italiano.

hmm no estoy segura de eso, Zifre, tenemos palabras como "innegable", en la que la n se pronuncia como siempre, sólo que un poco más larga :P Lo que tú dices sólo se aplica a la rr y a la ll ;)
