Das ist Absicht. "Such a man as he" ist ebenfalls sehr altmodisch.

Ich würde sagen es lautet entweder altmodisch oder „posh“.

Oder hyperkorrekt. In jedem Fall ist es vom Register her sehr ähnlich zu "dem Manne".

Für mich klingt es sehr nach Literatur des 17. Jahrhunderts, insbesondere Lawrence Sterne.
