Doctors usually use 虫垂炎 for appendicitis, while 盲腸 is more common among people at large.

Thnaks for that feedback. None of my dictionaries have it meaning "appendictis", but they are not good at colloquial speech. They show 盲腸炎 as being colloquial. Possibly 盲腸 is an abbreviation of 盲腸炎.
I'll change it back. There is already one sentence using 虫垂炎. 盲腸 is (now) in two sentences; one for "appendix" and one for "appendictis."

Yeah, I agree. We say 盲腸 but it usually doesn't mean an organ. It indicates 盲腸炎 as you pointed out.

盲腸で入院した。looks the same sentence as 風邪で入院した。but 盲腸 is not a kind of the disease names, it actually means 盲腸炎で入院した。
