Sí, por esa razón y también porque, con mi redacción, surgen dos oraciones yuxtapuestas.
El uso de la puntuación por el poeta es algo distinta, y depende de la entonación que se quiera dar a cada parte del texto en su enunciación.
La edición original del poeta era:
(Proverbios y Cantares) XXIX
Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino, y nada más;
caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.

El poeta usa el término 'camino' como metáfora de su propia vida (que fue de una itinerancia continua) y lanza varios mensajes a los 'caminantes':
El futuro es un camino por hacer, que aún no está definido.
El presente se va trazando, como las pisadas sobre una senda de tierra, según se avanza.
El pasado es un camino que poco a poco desaparece, como se desvanecen las estelas de los barcos en la mar.
Términos muy vinculados al viaje como 'camino', 'mar' o 'río' son muy usados por este poeta en sus obras. En otro poema (XLIV) repite estos términos:
Todo pasa y todo queda
pero lo nuestro es pasar,
pasar haciendo caminos,
caminos sobre la mar.
