
Is that an idiom? I cannot quite understand the meaning.
The Japanese seems to be completely different.

Possibly. I have heard of "Take a philosophical approach to life" being used to mean something like "Be satisfied with life without always struggling to have more."
So, English of "You take a philosophical approach to life, don't you?" might be barely acceptable.
