"How far along are you?" is a question often used when enquiring of a pregnant lady how far advanced the pregnancy is.

OK, but then again, because I'm starting from German, I have a doubt that the German translation had this in mind. This should be reviewed by a native German speaker.

I would say it's 90%+ pregnancy, <10% anything else. That may vary a little depending on where you live, of course.

Ah, so you think "Wie weit bist du?" should be unlinked? I thought you were arguing the opposite!

This sentence is ambiguous... it could be pregnancy related, but if my friend was writing an article or painting a painting, I might ask him the same question.
