Hi caspian,
Could you change to "Handschuhe"? At least this is how the word appears in the German variant, which is your original sentence. Yes, I know, it's the plural while you used the singular. But nevertheless... :)

Fair enough - yeah, I deliberately changed it to 'Handschuh' because it makes more sense.

Yes, I did see what you meant. But, nevertheless... An original is an original ;-)

So I have adjusted the Hebrew as plural :)

Please remove the annotation from the sentence. Sentences should not contain those.

My suggestion for removing the annotation while keeping the sense of the original is:
"My favourite word in German is the word for gloves which translates literally as hand shoes."
You can then put the word Handschuhe in the comment section for those that are interested.
(Notify the others to change their translation accordingly.)

I don't recommend to translate the word AND leave it untranslated at the same time, creating a structure totally different from the original one.
By the way, the *really* original one was http://tatoeba.org/deu/sentences/show/536679 — so quite some things have changed through various translations. I still think one shouldn't be too creative when translating.
Well. I don't know. You decide.
(I've already mentioned it to the author of the Hebrew sentence)

@caspian, I hope you are still receiving mail from Tatoeba.

Annotation removed, after a long time without response.
