"kommt nicht zu spät" means that he may be only a little late, whereas the original says that he keeps being punctual.

Auch die (englische) Pluralversion kann auf Deutsch so übersetzt werden. Da Paul ja „aus Prinzip“ so handelt, weiß man, dass dies grundsätzlich für alle seine Verabredungen gilt.
