Is trusting oneself in English really the same as self confidence? In German it isn't although the words are even closer related (“sich selbst vertrauen” vs. “Selbstvertrauen”).

Hi there :) Yes, but somebody must have linked the two English sentences, and I wonder, if they really have the same meaning. I think that if you trust yourself you know for example that you are honest to yourself. That doesn't necessarily mean that you are confident enough to speak up before a crowd.
