"whom" is grammatically correctly but I would say "who" in spoken English.

Some would say "with whom I'm sharing..."

(Edit: as Tom moved out last month, the first part of the sentence should be in the past tense.
"Tom, who I was sharing...")

I prefer the use of "whom". I know English grammarians tend to be more descriptive than prescriptive nowadays, and @patgfisher is right that "who" is commonly tolerated.

His other point on tense is also right. How about:

Tom, with whom I was sharing the apartment, moved out last month.

Either way is fine with me, but I would stick with what's "right." I think Americans have trashed the English language enough as it is (such as "different than" instead of "different from"). The TURKISH TRANSLATION for this and other similar sentences is what I am after. :-)

Languages change. It's the nature of the beast. Deal with it.

Does this mean that you don't necessarily make sure your sentences sound natural, that English learners shouldn't trust your sentences? If so, I don't think our Turkish colleagues would be happy to translate your sentences.

You wouldn't want to translate Turkish sentences that are correct AND sound stilted, would you?

tommy_san and Ronin1134, I don't think DostKaplan's sentence sounds unnatural. It is good, formal English and not at all stilted; it could readily be heard from an educated speaker, even if it is not the most often heard colloquially. One great thing about Tatoeba is that multiple translations are possible into a single language. So if you prefer the more colloquial version, I've added Sentence #4300668. Turkish or other translators should have no problem translating either the formally correct sentence or the more "street-talk" version.

I understand DostKaplan is a native English speaker trying to learn Turkish. More power to him. Turkish or other translators should have perfect confidence in the naturalness of DostKaplan's English sentences.

I didn't mean to specifically criticize this sentence. I just felt alarmed because DostKaplan seemed to be saying he's only after Turkish translations and he doesn't care if sentences sound natural as long as they're "right" (I hope this was my misunderstanding), and also because I've seen another native speaker commenting on some of his sentences that they don't sound natural to him (e.g. #3531539).
