Maybe it's better to use "kepeken" instead---or is it a controversial point?

I disagree with jan Kipo there. Toki Pona has always been using "toki" as a verb for 'to speak' AND 'to say'. It's quite vague in this regard, and one surely could avoid this vagueness by using "kepeken", but this isn't very common, it seems.
As far as I remember, the inventor used "toki" in this way herself.

I see. Using "e" surely isn't confusing in this case, so I too feel like avoiding the long word "kepeken" here. Only in more ambiguous cases could we turn to "kepeken".
mi wile kute e pilin jan ante.

I remember that "lon" is correct, but I still have to check if there really is an example of such a usage in the official Toki Pona book.

"mi toki ala lon toki Nijon."

toki e toki -> toki lon toki

"toki e" as "to speak" surely works for "to speak the truth", but it doesn't work for languages.
