Wovon genau ist dieser Satz die Übersetzung? "Er" != ili/they. Es dachte ja auch nicht er, dass er der(!) Sohn der Sonne war. :)

Also: "SIE dachteN, er sei DER Sohn der Sonne."

The current sentence was linked to my sentence:
Ili pensis, ke li estis la filo de la suno.

I've just deleted this sentence, as it didn't match the original English. In a retrospect, I should have unlinked that (I wasn't aware that it had another sentence linked to it).

Aber jetzt ist es doch auch falsch - müsste hier nicht der Genitiv stehen, so wie es am Anfang der Fall war? - Der Dativ ist nach meinem Sprachverständnis hier falsch, oder?

Ich weiß nicht, ob ich "von der Sonne" als falsch bezeichnen würde. Es klingt ein bisschen sehr umgangssprachlich. "Ein Sohn von der Frau Schneider" würde ich im Alltag sagen, aber für diesen Satz passt das nicht ganz und ist evtl. *zu* umgangssprachlich, gerade bei diesem Satz.
Ich denke, "der Sohn der Sonne" sollte es schon heißen.
