lot (10)
Definition: an unofficial association of people or groups

Sounds kind of strange, but I think it's okay.

No, it's just that this seems to be a blatant parody of the sentence I added a short while ago (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

yep...i read your sentence and this one came to my mind.

@AlanF_US

This sentence should be spelt this way:

I've thought about you ***a*** lot.

Yes. I added this to my list of sentences with errors marked as OK.

BraveSentry BraveSentry May 12, 2020 May 12, 2020 at 7:20:32 AM UTC link Permalink

No, it should not. The sentence means "I have thought about the group of people that you are a part of." Please look at definition 6 on this page: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lot

> I added this to my list of sentences with errors marked as OK.

Why would you keep such a list?

AlanF_US AlanF_US May 12, 2020 May 12, 2020 at 11:40:09 AM UTC link Permalink

@BraveSentry, you're right. I've occasionally heard that usage in UK English. I took it off the list and removed the @change tag. Sorry about that.

@deniko, I'm keeping that list because I see a significant number of English sentences with errors that are given OK ratings or tags, or are put on CK's List 907, and I want to be able to quantify them. I don't believe that it's practical to adopt an approach that all English sentences, or all English sentences by non-natives, should be mistrusted unless "proofread". One reason is that the volume of effort required is so high that sentences with actual errors will inevitably be marked as OK, rendering the whole exercise useless.

@Guybrush88 @Ricardo14 @elenacristina260 @marcelostockle Could you check the translations into Romance languages? They seem to be based on misreading "you lot" as "you a lot".

Ricardo14 Ricardo14 May 14, 2020 May 14, 2020 at 6:10:48 AM UTC link Permalink

@Yorwba - Thanks for the tag. Actually, it was misread in Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. I think if it was misread in Kabyle as well.

Anyway, I unlinked them.

AlanF_US AlanF_US May 14, 2020 May 14, 2020 at 12:22:31 PM UTC link Permalink

Thanks, @Ricardo14!

@Amastan, should the Berber sentences be unlinked from this one?
